Comments: What temperature range should my OS CV be operating after a 5 min race? Response: Once an engine reaches its operating temperature (this takes about 2 - 3 minutes of normal driving), it will stay at that temperature. That means that the temperature of your engine after a 5 minute race is the same as the temperature of your engine after a 30 minute race. Now, the temperature of your engine depends on how long you want your engine to last. Your engine will last for many seasons if you run it at 200 to 220 degrees Fahrenheit (at the glow plug meaning you must have an infrared temperature probe). If you are at a big race and you want an excessive amount of power (and you also don't mind replacing your engine sooner), you can run it up to about 250 degrees at the plug. I do not recommend that you run the OS CV at a temperature much higher than that. The OS CV is a power house as it is. I've been racing one all season and I've been coming off the track at around 215 degrees. Other racers have been just as fast as me but not faster (by this I mean in top speed and acceleration, obviously driving skill plays a major roll in a vehicles speed). One more note, an infrared temperature probe which takes the temperature at the glow plug will produce a higher temperature than an MIP temperature probe that takes the temperature at the side of the cylinder head so it is important to take this difference into consideration when tuning your engine. It is recommended that you set your engine using an infrared probe (borrow a friends, usually someone at the track has one) and then take note of the reading on the MIP probe. This way you will have an accurate reference point for the future. Let's take off a few tenths per lap, "PRO" Contact us | Pro Racer Secrets | Racers Corner Copyright 1998 - 2000.
