HPI Or Bolink?

Comments:  Hi, I am very new to RC.  Could you please compare the HPI RS4 to Bolink.

Thanks,

Response: If you are talking about the Bolink Pan Cars then there is a major difference between it and the HPI RS4.

The Bolink car is based on a basic flat chassis with a straight axle in the rear.  The rear suspension is simply a pivot ball that allows the rear pod to move from side to side.  It is direct geared (no tranny, just pinion and spur) with the differential located in the spur gear.  The front suspension consists of just a small spring.  These cars are designed to go very fast on high traction surfaces with very few bumps.  Mostly used on large asphalt oval tracks or carpet tracks.

The HPI RS4 is a fully independent, double wishbone suspension car that is 4wd (four wheel drive).  There is substantial gear reduction through the trannys.   It uses a bellcrank steering system to reduce "bump steer" (toe changes throughout the suspension travel).  There is much more suspension travel on the RS4 than on the Bolink.  The RS4 is designed for road course tracks with a relatively smooth surface.  Mostly parking lot racing or carpet racing.

Basically you are comparing apples with oranges.  These two cars will not ever race in the same class as one will always have a major advantage over the other.   In a high speed oval race, the Bolink would smoke the HPI because of its weight advantage but, on a road course set up in a parking lot, the Bolink would not stand a chance against the far superior suspension of the RS4.
