The RC Car and Radio Control Racing Web Site

My Favorite E-mail.  Keep Them Coming.

This came to me from one of my readers in South Africa.  His name is Michael, he practices law and is an avid RC car racer.  Thank you very much for the kind comments Michael.

Comments: Hi PRO

It is with some amusement that I read the latest complaints about having to pay for some of the information on your site. I have the following comments:

I don't know what people pay in Canada or the USA for their cars, motors or batteries. The US dollar - South African exchange rate hovers in the region of 6 SA rands to 1 dollar. We pay R600 for a good modified motor ($100). My IWC Street Weapon cost me R2650 ($440). My GM V12 ESC costs R1300 ($220). VIS batteries cost R630 ($105) a set. A good radio will cost between R1500 ($250) and R2400 ($400). Most of the guys who write to you, judging by the questions they ask and the equipment they refer to, have spent a great deal of money on their cars. I am quite sure they did not bitch like this when they took out their cheque books to pay for good equipment.

The amazing thing is that it seems that some are quite prepared to "stuff" up a good motor or mistreat their batteries because they are not prepared to pay a few $'s for very good advice. R/C Car or R/C Car Action will cost them $4.95 for one issue - and they will not find the same information in it. One thing that I have learnt is that it does not matter how good your equipment is, if you do not know how to treat it. That information can be found: (1) at the track (if there are others racers who have hours to spend teaching you the intricate details); (2)from the sponsored drivers (after you have spent twice your household budget for a car); (3)from books (there are a couple that you can buy at no less than $30 a book); (4) from your site ( I challenge anyone to find the same information collated in the same way elsewhere on the Net). I have files of info that I have printed from other sites - the same quality info is not to be found in all of it combined. Perhaps I should mention that I am linked to a LAN where I pay a fixed rate per month irrespective of time online. Believe me , I spend hours per month searching. Through all of this, I always come back to your site.

Your point about having to pay for your site is well made. My clients do not only pay for my years of study, experience or know-how. They pay for my chambers, my secretary and my law reports as well. Any professional has to do that in order to run a proper business. For the aforementioned reasons, I gladly pay for your "secrets".

You do not mention how long it took you to write your articles. I draft legal pleadings every day, so I believe I am in a position to comment on the amount of time, research and thought that goes into any structured article. I really think that those who complain should: (1) button up; (2) go find their tips elsewhere (if they can); (3) re-think their own logic (why spend good money on equipment if they are not prepared to spend a pittance to maintain it properly?).

There are a few other things that I can add, but I don't think it is necessary. Most of us are very satisfied with your site. The info is good and any question that we throw at you is answered quickly and expertly. I repeat what I said when I came across your site some time ago - the logic of what you are trying to achieve is sound, the info is good AND yours remains the ONLY site with  structured info offered.

Keep up the good work.
