How
Does A Boost Bottle Work? |
Comments: Hi, I was
curious about the MIP boost bottle for the nitro vehicles, do they work? if so how?
Response: The way a high performance
two stroke engine is designed causes it to send unburned fuel the opposite way through the
intake of the carburetor at low to mid range RPM's. This reverse flow of fuel causes
restrictions in the flow of useful air/fuel mixture and makes the engine run poorly.
A boost bottle is a chamber that allows the reverse flow of fuel a place to be stored
until it can be used by the engine. All it does is act as a little storage cell for
fuel. This will help smooth out the power band of your engine by removing this
unused fuel from the engines crankcase and carburetor.
Note, a boost bottle will not increase your engines output. It is simply used to
smooth out a rough idle and mid range that is very common with small 2 stroke engines.
You may witness a slight increase in fuel economy with a boost bottle since it
recycles fuel a little more efficiently but there is not a huge difference.
It seems as though a boost bottle is used mostly by serious racers that require a very
smooth power band. Most backyard hobbyist would not appreciate the benefits of this
upgrade and their money could be spent on more useful upgrades.
